April 2008

i just couldn’t resist – been having so much trouble with that tulip i was beginning to get discouraged and wonder if it was even worth it.  so, decided to put all four up just to see.  obviously two are ‘unfinished’ in varying degrees!  and the two that are finished i will be cutting down a little, i think.  they will be joined with same narrow sashing, black, like the backgrounds.  anyway, i am pretty happy with how they go together.  inspired to keep on keepin on with that dang tulip.  as you can see, i have not yet ripped the second one off.  been cutting fabrics for two days – for kits, in general.  just needed to step back for a bit before digging into that one again. ^_^

yes, they will all be on point.  and i need to get them together and the corners on so i have it for the next show!  only a week from today till i leave – guess i’d best stop fooling around!!  also have to get the patterns final drawn and copies made – as well as the covers printed, etc.  no rest for the weary! ^_^

i think i’m going to rip that tulip off again!  just not happy – again.  bought yet one more fabric to try.  trying not to have to paint one – just more work for to put the kits together!  i mean, there really IS only one of me!  anyway, didn’t do the bud – which isn’t really a bud anymore.  i will wait until tomorrow, but am pretty certain i will give it another shot.  so, here is how that blossom now looks.

well, i used the flash and got so close that you can’t even see the difference between the two non-metallic reds fabrics.  oh well, good enough for now.  may not be long for this world anyway.

gotta go, this computer just upgraded itself and keeps wanting to restart.

well, over the weekend, while visiting with ruth, i decided i just couldn’t stand that tulip – so i ripped it off.  along with the bud.  i will now make some changes to the drawing to enlarge the bud – make it more open, i guess.  and then will try again with the new fabrics i found.  i now have 4 reds instead of just the two.  i am hoping that will give the tulip more depth and definition.  while they are lovely to look at for real – they are tough to draw and have them be ‘interesting’.  well, at least when you attempt to ‘paint’ them with fabric!

wow, just looking around this page on which i’m writing.  all new layout.  not even sure how to add a photo now. hmmm  perhaps i’ll try adding an old one – maybe even the now extinct tulip.  ok, am leaving it where it turned up.  can see i must practice a bit with the new system.  could have sworn i chose “left” for orientation.  that sure looks like “center” to me. ??

somewhere in this little house there is a tiny furry four-legged creature hiding!  no, not the cat nor the dog.  if you have read any of these before, you might know that dear mr. pepe (the cat) just loves to bring ‘toys’ into the house!!  my first clue was the condition of the bathroom a few days ago.  that is, i found the rug, and whatever else was on the floor, askew/scattered. hmmm  more than just his running around kind of mess.  figured it meant he was chasing something.

then noticed he kept peering in at the end of all the ‘furniture’ that holds everything related to computers and printers.  there is a little space behind them and the wall, mostly it contains all the wires and power strip, etc.   day before yesterday, after having been successfully online in the morning, i was unable to connect in the afternoon.  not just the little warning yellow triangle – no, a big red X.  hmmm, something unplugged it said.  sure enough, the wireless antenna was no longer plugged into the power strip – not exactly easy to discover, given its location!  ok, now i know there must be something in here and it must be still very much alive!

then, last night – something caught my eye.  did i see something move over there in the hallway by the door??  was watching tv, had lights off, but there are decorative lights around the kitchen window, so light enough to see.  again?  ahhh, there it is!  something very tiny moving toward the wall.  ok, let’s get a container and see if we can catch it.  lights on, container in hand – ok, so where the H___ did it GO??  damn – need i say it is still  trembling SOMEplace in here!  i will be leaving today and not back till saturday or sunday.  hope i don’t find a stiff tiny body when i return.

given how much trouble mr pepe has catching things once they are IN here,  i have no idea how he does it out THERE!  and they are often alive.  occassionally he has gotten a little over zealous and done them in before they make it thru the window with him.  play toys – that’s what i think they are.  bored cat. ??  spring fever??

started to type monday in the title – guess it feels like that cause i’m just back from high sierra where i often am on mondays.  had a class today – 4 people, yea!  went quite well, in spite of how it felt at first.  for the first time i actually got there about 5 minutes early – only to discover no one there (students, that is – shop owner there).  10:00 came and went and still no one. hmmm how weird that all 4 people would be late!  checked with doug to be sure it was the right day and that everyone hadn’t un-enrolled!  ok, so one person had called and was going to be late.  pretty soon the two sisters showed up together and we got started around 10:15 or so.  finally the 4th person showed up – seemed to have thought it started at 10:30.  then person #3 called again to be sure it was still ok to come.  fortunately she was someone with at least some applique experience – so it was ok.

the next rough place was what seemed to be a communication block with one of them.  somehow i worked thru it and she was fine – in fact, did very well.  i must admit that i had to be very careful and conscious of how and what i was saying!!  while my students always comment on how patient i am – that is NOT exactly how i would often describe myself!!  not when the goal is to have you understand what i’m saying.  and this was a rather extreme case when i had trouble even understanding her questions or what she meant when she said what she thought i had said!!    and somehow – it all worked out. ^_^

this was #1 of 2.  i’ve done it so many times lately as a one day class, it felt a little strange – seemed kind of a luxury to have so much time.  but we ended up using it all what with late arrivals, etc.  in fact, we went over at least a half hour.  hopefully next week will be a bit smoother sailing.

and now, i guess i need to get to printing some covers and backs.  going to spend a day or two with ruth and decided to take patterns  to fold and stuff rather than something to sew.  easier, i think.

guess that’s it.  no picture for today.  sure is a lovely day out there!!
